The Green Carpet Fashion Award ended the most intense week in Milan, that of womenswear. This is the third edition of the event which, every year more, acquires greater and essential importance in the national and global scene. The evening, which takes place in the luxurious setting of the Teatro La Scala, rewards and celebrates the innovators of the fashion industry who have achieved important goals in terms of sustainability.
There were many stars and celebrities on the green carpet. To present the evening the model Adut Akech and Jon Kortajarena, to dominate the scene Barbara Palvin and Candice Swanepoel, Elsa Hosk and Alessandra Ambrosio in vintage Etro, the unreachable Anna Wintour and Valentino Garavani, accompanied by Sophia Loren: he received the Legacy Award, crowning his fifty-year career and his commitment to Italian fashion and style.
The award-winning designers were many, as were the issues addressed. The Green Carpet Fashion Award has reached this year a resonance never reached before and really gives hopes for a better future. The younger generations are the ones that have shown a huge interest in the event on social media, but it is interesting to see how the GCFA of Milan has already identified the problems to be faced some times ago and are the veterans of the sector who show the way for a more sustainable future. As Cristina Tajani stated at the press conference, if we can hope for a sustainable and respectful future "it will be because many, in Milan, have turned the spotlight on the shadows for a while, rewarding instead the lights and thus indicating a possible path".
Everything inside the show was designed to be in line with the sustainable aims that the event promotes. Like the carpet, green and floral, on which the celebrities have marched, made of Econyl and produced by Aquafil with recovered fishing nets and transformed into eco nylon and infinitely recyclable.
The theme of the evening was instead inspired by the creative genius of Leonardo da Vinci, to whom the installation in piazza della Scala was dedicated. Sustainability is a relatively new value, which only in recent times is (finally) entering the common mentality. In support of this great issue we must not forget that what is needed above all is genius, of which da Vinci was an undisputed example. His figure is inextricably linked to the image of Italy in the world, to the creative ability, to the craftsmanship and to the enlightened minds that this country has hosted and which had - and still have today - given a great impulse to the development of critical thinking and creative. This is excatly what we need today.
Among the various awards we mention the Technology and Innovation Award at SICIT Valter Peretti and Massimo Neresini, for their commitment to decrease and eliminate the environmental impact in leather tanning.
The Eco Stewardship Award to the Association of Gondoliers of Venice, for their uniforms made of pure merino wool from Australia and 100% renewable.
The Franca Sozzani GCC Award for Best Emerging Designer to Flavia La Rocca, born in Rome and founder of the eponymous flavialarocca brand, based entirely on the sustainable design of modular clothing.
