Anna Sui’s Spring 2020 collection was, as she admitted, an exercise at times complicated, motivated by the desire to convey the facets of a woman who makes of her contradictions a strength and a power, first of all if not absolutely for herself, an acceptance that often sounds complicated.
The main source of inspiration for the designer was Lila de Nobili, an artist and costume designer lived in the twentieth century, famous for his portraits of women with a light, delicate and ethereal air.
The same characteristics are to be found in the collection presented on the New York catwalk, translated into chiffon dresses, long caftans placed on top of wide trousers with floral prints and Victorian-like details made of lace and puffed sleeves. Military jackets and sporty-cut shoes and platforms contrast this delicacy, by conveying a confidence and aggressiveness that create new balances in feminine characterization.
