Photo London: the annual photographic event

Now at the fifth edition, Photo London is an international event that summons up artists coming

from all over the world, shaping the British capital as a cultural pole where to celebrate the art of

photography.

The exhibitions are in museums, galleries but also in the burgeoning communities in the East End

and in South London.

Not only some already established artists will present their works; indeed, the organization allows

the emerging talents to be discovered, thanks to a dedicated section named “Discovery”.

Very interesting, is also the Public Programme, dedicated to special exhibitions, installations, with also a Talks Programme, all supervised by William A. Ewing, curator and writer, former director of Musée de l’Elysée and former Director of Exhibition at the International Center of Photography in New York. The most valid creations will also be awarded with the Photo London Master of Photography Award.

This year, the Photo London edition was defined by the organization as “the strongest yet” of all

editions. Over 100 of the most famous galleries were presented, with over 400 artists sharing their

works.

Amongst the galleries which participated, Galerie Nathalie Obadia was one of the most interesting.

It was founded in Belgium in 1993. The artists exhibited were Valérie Belin, Luc Delahaye,

Seydou Keïta, Andres Serrano, Agnès Varda e Mickalene Thomas. “Still Life with pearls” by

Valérie Belin and “Nomads” by Andres Serrano were some of the most remarkable works.

From the USA the Howard Greenberg Gallery, founded in 1981, presented artist Vivian

Maier. The gallery distinguishes itself for its wide collection that goes from Pictorialism and

Modernism, to contemporary photography. In occasion of Photo London, the gallery showed

some American life scenarios captured by the eye of Vivian Maier.

Founded in 1995, the Kehrer Verlag is an independent publisher specialized in the publication

of books dedicated to fine arts and photography. Amongst the significant publications we

remember the one of Sarah Moon and Bruce Gilden.

This year the publisher offered the work of Sheron Rupp “Taken from Memory”, Sebastian

Sardi with “Black Diamond” and “The Guardians” by Vladimir Antaki.

From Italy the Roman gallery Spazio Nuovo, founded in 2010, also participated. For this

edition, the exhibited artist was Marco Maria Zanin with his works “Sette Lune”, “Filosofia”,

“Mezzogiorno Locale Vero” and many others.

Photo London establishes itself once more as a stimulating, creative space in which

photography interlaces its roots with other artistic forms, celebrating the spirit of

those who speak through images.
